Learning Vietnamese Tradition – Drink Tea

If you are learning Vietnamese, you should know drinking tea has long taken up a unique place in Vietnamese tradition. In the past, tea was used only by noble high-class people. The way they made tea and lifted the tea cup with both hands was very gracious and elegant. Because of this, a person who was invited to have tea with could  understand the host family’s style and how wealthy the family was.

Before having tea, a person gently lifts the tea cup up to savour the smell of the tea leaves, then slowly enjoys the taste of tea. From the quality of the tea, the tea drinker will find the soul, the love of the tea maker.
